Chery Tiggo 8 CSH Price Confirmed Competitive, Below IDR 1 Billion

KatadataOTO – PT CSI (Chery Sales Indonesia) is ready to launch their first hybrid car in Indonesia, namely the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH (Chery Super Hybrid).

For your information, CSH itself is Chery's PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology, embedded in several models including the Tiggo 8.

The price of PHEVs in Indonesia is currently still above IDR 1 billion, making it a less attractive option for the public if they want to switch to environmentally friendly vehicles.

Most people choose conventional hybrids like mild hybrids because the price offered is lower.

Seeing this, Chery is interested in presenting a new PHEV option sold at a competitive price so that it can reach more consumers.

Although reluctant to mention the exact price, Chery claims the price of the Tiggo 8 CSH will be a new breakthrough in the market.

“An excellent alternative for the Indonesian people. The price is not far from competitors with lower technology,” said Budi Darmawan, Sales Director of PT CSI when met in PIK, Tuesday (14/04).

Currently, hybrid cars with dimensions not much different from the Tiggo 8 CSH, like the Honda CR-V e:HEV, are sold for around IDR 800 million. However, it has a 5-seater configuration and is not a PHEV.

Meanwhile, from another Japanese manufacturer, there is the Mazda CX-80 PHEV with a 6-seater configuration, priced at IDR 1.19 billion.

“Just wait for the price. It will definitely cause a stir,” said Budi.

According to him, the price of the Tiggo 7 CSH is hoped to attract consumers who still have the perception that PHEVs are sold expensively above IDR 1 billion.

The presence of the Tiggo 8 CSH also complements Chery's other current electrification lineup, such as the Omoda E5 and J6, providing many choices for customers.

Although the PHEV market is not yet large in Indonesia, Chery is optimistic that this type of car will be in demand if the price is right.

“If we talk about (Indonesia's geographical conditions), this PHEV is actually the solution,” Budi affirmed.

The Chery Tiggo 8 CSH has the potential to be the first PHEV offered under IDR 1 billion in Indonesia. It should be noted that unlike its rival, the Mazda CX-80 PHEV, the Tiggo 8 CSH is already locally assembled at the PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor) factory.
