Chery Discusses J6's Fate After iCar V23 Debuts in Indonesia This Year

KatadataOTO – Chery will bring several new sub-brands for domestic consumers, one of which is iCar.

The sub-brand focuses on developing electric cars using its own platform. The Electric Vehicle (EV) under iCar has a boxy design that is quite different from other Chery line-ups such as Omoda and Jaecoo.

For the record, the iCar series has actually already entered Indonesia through the J6. That model is sold in its home country as the iCar 03.

This year Chery is said to launch a new product with a similar concept, namely iCar V23.

A Chery representative disclosed that the arrival of iCar V23 in the country will not eliminate the existence of the J6.

“So the product lineup that is currently marketed under one brand will remain there. J6 under Chery, iCar has its own lineup, it has its positioning,” said Budi Darmawan, Vice Country Director of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) in Semarang, recently.

Budi is reluctant to talk much about iCar or its debut model in the country. However, he emphasizes that iCar's presence serves to complement Chery's lineup.

Budi believes the Chery J6 will still have its own customers, not replaced by other product lines from iCar.

“We will arrange it in such a way that they (Chery J6 and iCar V23) will not cannibalize each other,” Budi said.

Unfortunately, the price range for the iCar V23 is not yet known. However, it seems it will be higher than the Chery J6.

Given that the iCar V23 targets different consumers and has the potential to fill a higher segment than the Chery J6, in terms of dimensions and technical specifications.

“We have not decided yet (iCar V23 price), because we are studying the market,” he affirmed.

For your information, iCar will make its debut as a sub-brand in front of consumers at the Indonesia International Motor Show or IIMS 2026.

The iCar product lines expected to enter Indonesia soon are iCar V23 and iCar V27.
