KatadataOTO – The Chery car fire in Bekasi is still receiving public attention. This is because customers are worried that the vehicles they buy later might be remnants from the incident that have been repaired by the company.

Aware of this, PT Chery Sales Indonesia ensures that the remaining burnt cars will not be used. They plan to destroy the remaining vehicles to ensure product quality in the country.

“The units from the fire cannot be repaired, so we will destroy them 100 percent,” said Budi Darmawan, Sales Director of PT CSI to the media (24/03).

Although the number of burnt units is estimated to be around 100, he revealed that product availability will not be significantly affected. This is because Chery has already prepared stock for customers.

“The number of burnt units is around 90 to 100, but we are still calculating the details. Coincidentally, we have also prepared sufficient stock so that vehicle deliveries before Eid will not be disrupted,” he said.

However, he admitted that customers who make purchases after Eid will have to wait a little longer.

“But the additional waiting time will not be too long, perhaps only a one-week delay from the initial promise,” he then added.

He also emphasized that his party is currently still investigating the cause of the incident. An investigation is necessary to avoid similar occurrences in the future.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Meanwhile, the total losses have not yet been fully calculated,” Budi affirmed.

It was previously reported that a fire had occurred involving knocked-down kit Omoda 5 cars with gasoline engines. This was proven by a photo of a vehicle with a fuel tank opening.

This incident went viral because rumors circulated that the burning cars were Electric Vehicles. As a result, there was a potential loss of public trust in electric vehicles, even though the market is currently growing.

Therefore, Chery responded to this issue quite seriously and confirmed that the burnt units were not electric vehicles.
