KatadataOTO – Chery has recently been the center of attention. Especially during the Fengyun X3L stunt at Heaven's Gate, China.

The car failed to conquer the legendary Tianmen Mountain route. The Fengyun X3L actually slid back while climbing some of the steps.

The Extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), a twin of the J6, even hit the guardrail at the iconic Chinese location. The incident subsequently went viral on social media.

Chery Auto has spoken out. According to them, the incident occurred during an internal test.

This activity aimed to demonstrate the vehicle's performance on an unconventional route. Chery also confirmed there were no casualties.

"The initial investigation shows that the problem occurred because the main hook of the safety rope suddenly came loose," read Chery's official statement.

The Chinese brand also explained that when the hook came loose, the rope got caught in the vehicle's right wheel.

This caused the Fengyun X3L to lose traction. It then slid backward and hit the safety barrier.

"This resulted in partial damage to the barrier. In this incident, there were no casualties or damage to the surrounding natural environment," they continued.

It was further stated that the incident on November 12, 2025, was due to their negligence. Because they failed to conduct a risk assessment.

There was also a lack of detailed control in the planning process. And during the execution of the extreme challenge test at the Tianmen Mountain Tourist Area, Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province.

This electric car manufacturer explained that incidents like the one above are indeed unavoidable.

"We also realize and deeply reflect on the public's concern over our decision to hold an extreme test in a public tourist area," Chery stated firmly.

The failure of this extreme test is considered a valuable lesson. So that they can move forward more carefully.

"We extend our sincerest apologies to the management of the Tianmen Mountain Tourist Area, tourists, partners, and all parties who have shown concern over this incident," Chery concluded.

Finally, Chery will provide an update on the investigation results of the incident involving the J6's twin.
