KatadataOTOElectric cars are now the new favorite for some people. They use Electric Vehicles (EV) for daily mobility.

The massive use of electric four-wheeled vehicles brings new problems, such as waste from the power storage units used.

Reporting from Carnewschina on Monday (19/01), China has just tightened the recycling regulations for electric car batteries.

The Chinese government has issued interim measures for the management of recycling and comprehensive utilization of used electric vehicle batteries.

“These rules will take effect on April 1 to control the flow of used batteries, and will require EV batteries to remain in the vehicle after being dismantled,” wrote the online media.

Indeed, recycling power storage units in China faces several major challenges. Such as a lack of infrastructure, fire risks, and expensive dismantling processes due to a lack of standardization.

Therefore, the Chinese General Administration of Market Supervision and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have formed a national technical committee.

This organization will later be tasked with standardizing the recycling of electric car batteries.

“MIIT will build a national information platform that will track NEV batteries throughout their life cycle,” they continued.

The process above includes production, sales, repair, replacement, dismantling, recycling, and comprehensive utilization.

In addition, China will also establish a standard system for the comprehensive utilization of EV batteries, and support the demonstration, promotion, and application of new technologies, processes, and equipment.

Then the Chinese government requires manufacturers and importers of power storage units to use materials with low toxicity levels.

Then the raw materials or materials for EV batteries must also be easily recyclable. Furthermore, they must be identified in accordance with the GB/T 34014 standard.

It is stated that NEV manufacturers and importers must submit technical information.
