KatadataOTO – After testing various cars throughout 2024, Euro NCAP has given special awards to the vehicles deemed the safest in their respective segments for 2024. Interestingly, a model from China managed to take the title.

Throughout 2024, Small SUVs dominated the European market. It's not surprising that 20 of the 44 models tested by Euro NCAP came from this segment.

Out of all of them, the Zeekr X from Geely managed to outperform all European brands and earn the title of the safest electric car in 2024. The model was rated better than the Deepal S07, Porsche Macan EV, Cupra Tavascan, MG HS, Toyota C-HR, Volvo EX30, and Xpeng G6.

According to Euro NCAP, the car has successfully provided protection for both the driver and passengers.

Furthermore, during testing, there is an eCall system that sends a notification to emergency services if the unit is involved in an accident.

With this system, the Zeekr X will perform further deceleration and braking to avoid a collision.

Then, if the car enters water, the door locks will open about two minutes after a total power loss. However, the windows can still be opened to make it easier for passengers to exit the cabin.

The unit is also equipped with a Child Presence Detection system to detect when a small child is left in the cabin. In the event of an accident, the vehicle can protect the body parts of child passengers.

Its four test categories received results above 80 percent: Adult Occupant Protection 91 percent (36.9 points), Child Occupant Protection 90 percent (44.5 points), Vulnerable Road Users 84 percent (53.5 points), and Safety Assist 83 percent (15.1 points).

Nevertheless, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is still the safest model in 2024. The model obtained the highest overall score in 2024 and excelled in the four Euro NCAP safety categories.

Meanwhile, in the Big SUV segment, the Mazda CX-80 managed to outperform the Audi Q6 e-Tron and several European models to sit at the top of its class.

As for family cars, the Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb had to share the award. Both models were developed on a similar platform, resulting in the same safety score.
