The Bandung Fire Department provided a brief chronology regarding the Wuling Air ev incident that caught fire on Saturday (July 5th).
KatadataOTO – A electric car unit, a Wuling Air ev, recently caught fire on Soekarno Hatta Street, Bandung City on Saturday (05/07).
Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident. The fire was successfully extinguished by the local Fire Department (Damkar).
In a viral video circulating on social media, the Wuling Air ev was seen emitting white smoke from the hood area.
“According to the car owner's statement, while driving, another driver shouted that their car was emitting smoke from the front,” wrote the Bandung Fire Department via the @bdg.siaga113.uptselatan account, quoted on Sunday (06/07).
The driver then got out of the vehicle to check and open the hood.
Shortly after, the smoke grew thicker and ended with flames that eventually engulfed the entire vehicle.
At that time, the car was on a public road, not parked. Thus, other vehicles could avoid the flames.
The driver then contacted the Fire Department, which arrived at the location shortly after to extinguish the fire.
The fire was successfully extinguished about 16 minutes later. The Fire Department then immediately checked the burned area to ensure it was safe.
In the photo from the Bandung Fire Department's report, the Wuling Air ev was seen completely burned and shapeless, consumed by the flames. Only the gray frame remained.
However, the Fire Department stated that the cause of the incident and the estimated losses could not yet be determined.
The type of Wuling Air ev that caught fire is also unknown. For your information, the price of the Air ev electric car is currently in the range of Rp 184 million to Rp 252 million OTR (On The Road) Jakarta.
The Wuling Air ev electric car fire in Bandung has drawn various comments from social media users. Some believe the incident was caused by modifications to the electrical system or lights.
Considering the fire started from the front area of the car, while the Wuling Air ev's battery is located underneath and its electric motor is at the rear wheels.
Therefore, it is suspected that the fire was not triggered by a battery fault or a malfunction of the Wuling Air ev's powertrain.
KatadataOTO has confirmed the chronology and suspected cause of the incident with Wuling. However, as of the time this news was published, we have not received a response.
