Daihatsu acknowledges challenges in recalling Ayla and Rocky, leading to a slow process.
By Adi Hidayat
KatadataOTO – Daihatsu admits that recalling the Ayla and Rocky is not easy. There are several challenges they must face for the program to run smoothly.
One of them is the large number of vehicle owners they have to contact. Therefore, they need to cooperate with a third party.
“The number of vehicles affected by the recall reaches more than 15,000 units. Therefore, we are using a third party to contact owners via phone calls and WhatsApp so the recall can proceed,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing Director and Corporate Communication Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor some time ago.
However, the challenges don't stop there, as many people do not answer their phones or the vehicles have changed owners. This situation poses a unique challenge.
“Only about 938 people have responded to the calls and made appointments, while only 300 units have been repaired. The number is still small because they might want to go on the Eid homecoming trip first,” she added.
It was previously reported that Daihatsu is recalling two of its products, namely the Rocky and Ayla. Owners of these two models are asked to come to an official workshop for an inspection and reprogramming of the Engine ECU software.
This is because Daihatsu found a potential malfunction that could occur, such as the brake pedal feeling heavier and harder than usual. As a result, the braking distance becomes longer than it should be, potentially causing an accident.
In the statement, it was mentioned that the electronic ECU component functions to control various systems in the vehicle, including the brake booster which regulates braking performance for optimal driving.
The company ensures that the inspection and repair will be provided free of any charge. Meanwhile, the estimated work time is about one hour without needing any component replacement.
Given the importance of this program, it is recommended to have it done before long-distance travel, such as the Eid homecoming. This is to reduce the risk of accidents that may occur while traveling.
