Daihatsu Will Help Consumers Affected by Sumatra Floods

Daihatsu car prices are said to still hold up amid the volatility of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar.
KatadataOTO – The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar has been continuously changing recently. In fact, on April 7, 2025, the figure reached Rp 17 thousand per US dollar.
This can impact industries in various sectors. Subsequently, investors are said to have the opportunity to withdraw funds from Indonesia.
In the automotive sector, the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar also has the potential to impact the increase in car selling prices. This is no exception for models with CKD (Completely Knocked Down) status.
This is because cars do not fully use local components and there are still parts that are imported.
Nevertheless, PT ADM (Astra Daihatsu Motor) as one of the manufacturers revealed that the high value of TKDN (Domestic Component Level) allows their car selling prices to be more stable.
“At Daihatsu, we have benefited from a high level of local purchasing,” began Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing and Corporate Communication Director of PT ADM, when met in Jakarta some time ago.
According to Agung, almost all Daihatsu vehicle lines sold in Indonesia have a TKDN of at least 80 percent.
On the other hand, Agung revealed that sometimes the exchange rate does not immediately cause car prices to rise.
“In manufacturing, it doesn't automatically increase, because in addition to local purchasing, it turns out there are components whose prices have dropped. However, this is not known to the public,” explained Sri.
Agung emphasized that a single car unit has thousands of components. Specifically for Daihatsu, assembly is supported by around 1,700 suppliers and MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises).
“Our local purchasing is already over 80 percent, but there are still some from multiple sources and one (model) from a Japanese source,” he revealed.
Therefore, Daihatsu car prices will tend to remain stable amidst the uncertainty of the rupiah exchange rate.
The hope is that this will make it easier for Daihatsu's target consumers, namely first-time car buyers in Indonesia.
For your information, Daihatsu models locally assembled at PT ADM's domestic facilities include the Sigra, Rocky, Xenia, and Terios.
Meanwhile, the new Sirion hatchback is still fully imported or CBU (Completely Built Up) from Malaysia. There are no plans for local assembly of that model yet, as its demand is not yet very high.
