KatadataOTO – Sales of four-wheeled vehicles in Indonesia on a retail basis in March 2025 saw an increase from February. This month, the figure reached 76,582 units, while in February it was 69,872 units.

Daihatsu still holds the second position in national car sales, with 13,111 units sold in March 2025. For comparison, in the same period in 2024, the figure was higher at 17,352 units.

In response, Daihatsu mentioned that several factors influenced these sales figures. One of them is the number of new models, especially in electrification.

Indeed, this year alone, several new electric and hybrid car models have been introduced, from both Japanese and Chinese manufacturers.

“The market for ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) has slightly decreased. Because the adoption of XEV (electrified vehicles) in the medium-high segment is being better received in Indonesia, especially by second-time buyers,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing & Corporate Communication Director of PT ADM (Astra Daihatsu Motor) in South Jakarta, Wednesday (16/04).

Regardless, she emphasized that Daihatsu will remain focused on offering products suitable for first-time car buyers.

Because according to Daihatsu, the Indonesian market is still dominated by first-time car buyers.

Then, other issues such as NPL (Non-Performing Loan) or problems related to the loan payment process are said to be still occurring this year.

“The exchange rate also plays a role; the automotive industry is at the third economic level after clothing and food. The influence is quite significant,” Agung affirmed.

Therefore, throughout 2025, Daihatsu will continue to focus on presenting vehicles with competitive prices according to its target market, namely first-time car buyers.

“Because the macro (market conditions) are not very good, it also affects the micro. Including first-time car buyers,” said Agung.

For your information, Daihatsu currently offers two LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) products sold for under Rp 200 million.

There is the Ayla if consumers need a compact 5-seater car, while the Sigra can accommodate seven passengers.

Speaking of environmentally friendly vehicles, Daihatsu has the Rocky Hybrid, which is already marketed in its home country, Japan.

Although Daihatsu once brought the Rocky Hybrid as a display at a national automotive exhibition, there are no clear plans yet on when this environmentally friendly product will be offered to the public.
