KatadataOTO – ADM (Astra Daihatsu Motor) continues to strengthen its position in the Indonesian automotive industry. Recently, they inaugurated a new factory in Karawang, West Java on Thursday (27/02).
The facility is designated as Plant Line 2. It aims to strengthen their production capacity in the country and demonstrate Daihatsu's seriousness in the four-wheeled vehicle market.
“We are grateful to be able to open this new Karawang Assembly Plant 2 facility as a form of sustainable investment for the future,” said Yasushi Kyoda, President Director of ADM in his speech.
Kyoda revealed that the facility adopts the ESSC (Evolution-Simple-Slim-Compact) concept. It is expected to be able to meet the domestic demand for vehicles.
Moreover, the factory has a production capacity of up to 140 thousand units per year.
Thus, in total, all Daihatsu factories in the country can produce 530 thousand cars over 12 months.
Additionally, they are supported by more than 1,700 suppliers, including 700 MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises). This allows them to achieve a TKDN (Local Content Level) of 80 percent.
On the other hand, this production facility is equipped with several amenities. These include Body, Painting, and Assembling.
Everything is integrated and uses the latest technology. Furthermore, the Japanese manufacturer has also optimized production, claiming to be able to reduce carbon emissions by up to 20 percent.
“The construction of this factory is an important milestone for us towards the future. It is also a manifestation of our commitment to sustainable cooperation with Indonesia,” Kyoda continued.
For your information, the new line is dedicated to producing several cars, such as the Daihatsu Ayla, Toyota Agya, and Toyota Wigo.
Meanwhile, in May 2025, the production of the Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia will be moved to Karawang.
It should be noted that Plant Line 2 in Karawang is an update that replaces the factory previously located in Sunter, North Jakarta.
Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry (Menperin), who was present on the same occasion, welcomed the presence of the new Daihatsu factory.
“I hope Daihatsu can continue to develop models according to the latest automotive trends. Furthermore, to strengthen industrial participation by involving the local supply chain,” said Agus.
He hopes that Astra Daihatsu Motor can solidify its position as one of the leading motor vehicle manufacturers in the country.
