It should be noted that the weight of electric cars tends to be heavier due to the presence of an additional large component, namely the battery.

Using the wrong tires on an electric car can have a negative impact, one of which is that the car's energy use becomes inefficient. Therefore, EV owners need to pay attention to the type of tires on their environmentally friendly vehicles.

PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia, as a tire manufacturer in the country, has established at least four main criteria for tires that are optimal for use on electric cars.

“First, the tires must be able to accommodate the heavier weight of electric cars, instant torque, and high acceleration; they must be silent and offer long range,” said Fisa Rizqiano, Deputy Head of OE Sales for Bridgestone Tire Indonesia in Karawang, West Java, on Tuesday (4/2).

According to Fisa, there are also tires that are specifically designed for use on electric cars. The criteria or characteristics are certainly much more extensive and focus on comfort.

“The tire structure is different. EV tires, by design, have a high load index because the (car's weight) is heavy, a strong construction, and a special compound,” continued Fisa.

On premium class electric car tires, tire noise-dampening technology is even embedded. It is usually in the form of a sponge or foam, placed inside the component.

Finally, he emphasized the acceleration of electric cars compared to conventional vehicles. When it comes to deceleration, tire wear becomes one of the risks that must be faced.

Thus, it is important for electric car owners not to be careless when using tires on their electric cars. This is so that the features supporting travel comfort and the car's range can continue to function optimally.

“Because, as mentioned, the acceleration of an electric car can be very fast. In short, it's heavy weight plus fast acceleration,” Fisa emphasized.

For your information, Bridgestone has launched their newest product, the Turanza 6, which can be used for electric cars. The tire is claimed to be a development of the Turanza T005A.

“There are several factors that must be considered, including noise. This is because the character of an EV is very quiet, so even a slight foreign sound can be disturbing,” said Fisa on a different occasion.
