KatadataOTO – A video has been circulating on social media showing that radiation from electric cars is quite high. The content was spread by the TikTok account @yussamarulli6.

In the post, he uses a black device with "Radiation Detection" written on it. When activated, the device shows a reading of up to 2,500 GHz, which is claimed to be far above the safe limit.

He then attaches a device to reduce the radiation, and the meter then shows a reading of zero.

He explains that the device indeed functions to reduce radiation in vehicles. Thus, it is hoped that human health, especially for EV users, will not be negatively affected.

So, are all electric vehicles dangerous without such a device? Adrianto Sugiarto Wiyono, a Technical Committee member of ASEAN NCAP, revealed that all electric vehicles are already equipped with various features to protect their users, including from radiation exposure.

“Every active electrical device will emit radiation, and of course, this has been calculated by the manufacturer to ensure it is not harmful to health. The same goes for electric vehicles; there are definitely standards,” he told KatadataOTO.

He also explained that the most effective way to reduce radiation is by covering its source with a special coating.

“For electric vehicles, it could be on the battery casing. But if a device as simple as that can reduce radiation, then it's not a problem as long as it is scientifically proven,” he then said.

The high radiation from electric vehicles is not yet a factor examined by ASEAN NCAP. However, he could consider including it in future testing.

“ASEAN NCAP does not yet have a test protocol for electric vehicle radiation. However, this can be a consideration in the development of the next test protocol,” he concluded.
