KatadataOTO – BYD is becoming more aggressive in marketing electric cars. The Chinese company is rumored to have a new product.

In fact, the Electric Vehicle (EV) is rumored to be launching soon at an exhibition in Japan.

"BYD's passenger car division will exhibit a kei car EV prototype at the Japan Mobility Show 2025," read the announcement on BYD Japan's official website, Thursday (23/10).

They further explained that the product is specially designed for the Japanese market. It has even met the vehicle standards there.

Meanwhile, according to a Carnewschina report, there has been no official report on whether BYD's electric kei car will also be brought to China.

At a glance, BYD's new product features a boxy body. It is claimed to offer a fairly spacious cabin.

This is because BYD maximizes space with a short hood design. It also has a long wheelbase and short overhangs.

Based on the information circulating, BYD's electric kei car is equipped with sliding second-row doors.

This is said to allow passengers to get in and out of the vehicle easily when using the EV.

BYD's electric kei car is also equipped with a floating-style digital meter panel and head unit. This allows it to display various information.

This environmentally friendly four-wheeled vehicle is rumored to carry a 20 kWh Blade Battery.

It is capable of a range of up to 180 km on a single charge under the WLTC testing mode.

On the other hand, BYD claims the electric kei car is their first exclusive overseas design. It also reflects the company's philosophy of cooling the Earth by 1°C.

In terms of price, it is confirmed to be lower than other kei cars in Japan like the Nissan Sakura. It should be noted that the Sakura is a highly sought-after EV (Electric Vehicle) in the kei car category.

For comparison, the Nissan Sakura is currently sold for around 18,250 USD. In rupiah, this figure is equivalent to Rp 307.7 million.

To compete with the Nissan Sakura, BYD's kei car will have to be offered at a lower price. Japanese local media reported that the price range for BYD's product is 17,700 USD (Rp 298.4 million).

Considering that price is still one of the main considerations for consumers in Japan before buying an electric car.
