KatadataOTO – Chery is currently focused on presenting cars in the 5-seater and 7-seater SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) segment. However, the Chinese brand is known to have registered a unique model.

We obtained this information from the DJKI (Directorate General of Intellectual Property) data, announced on May 20, 2025, No. 31/DI/2025 with application number A00202502598.

In the report, the model in question is a pickup truck. The applicant's name is listed as Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. in Wuhu, China.

The registered pickup design is actually different from the special pickup sub-brands, Himla and Rely, which were recently introduced by Chery.

Its front fascia has a retro feel, at a glance resembling the Toyota Hilux Rangga pickup which is already sold in Indonesia.

Unlike the Hilux Rangga, the Chery pickup is a double cabin, or a dual-cab pickup with a 5-seater configuration.

Upon further investigation, Chery does not yet have a pickup with a design like the one registered in Indonesia.

The Chery pickup is actually identical to the Jetour F700 prototype, equipped with several unique features such as the use of suicide doors.

A similar model was also registered by Chery in Australia some time ago.

Quoted from CarExpert, Wednesday (09/07), Chery Australia plans to launch a large pickup with PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology as a rival to the BYD Shark 6.

“We see Australia as a large pickup market and I can say we are developing a pickup according to the needs of consumers here,” said Zhang Guibing, President of Chery International.

Because it will be produced in a right-hand drive or RHD (Right Hand Drive) configuration, this model is believed to be sold in various other RHD countries.

However, until now there has been no recent information about the newest model from Chery.

It should be noted, Chery is not the first brand to register a pickup truck in the country. In February 2025, the BYD Shark PHEV was first registered with the DJKI.

The right-hand drive version of the BYD Shark made its Southeast Asian debut in Cambodia towards the end of October 2024 under the name Shark 6. Following that, it was then launched in Australia.

The BYD Shark is equipped with a 1,500 cc turbo engine combined with a 29.58 kWh Blade Battery. Its comprehensive cruising range is 800 km.
