KatadataOTO – Currently, Chinese manufacturers are not just selling electric cars. However, they are also competing to offer four-wheeled vehicles with hybrid powertrains.
As brought by GAC Indonesia at the GIIAS 2025 event. They were seen displaying the Aion E9 PHEV.
However, this competitor to the Denza D9 was only exhibited. It is not yet for sale to consumers in the country.
The Chinese brand admitted that it is intentionally not yet selling the GAC Aion E9 PHEV to the public in the country.
“I didn't launch it at GIIAS because I'm waiting for the new model. The one that will be released later is the truly new model,” said Andry Ciu, CEO of GAC Indonesia in North Jakarta some time ago.
According to Andry, a new model of the Aion hybrid car will be launched in China in 2026.
In addition, the refresh for the Aion E9 PHEV is not minor. Andy revealed there will be many changes.
Therefore, GAC Indonesia wants to bring the very latest product for consumers in the country.
“After the China launch, it usually appears here (Indonesia) two months later. It seems the Q1 launch is in China,” concluded Adnry.
Based on the statement from the GAC Indonesia boss above, the chance of the Aion E9 PHEV hitting the roads in the country will likely be in mid-2026.
For your information, this one Aion hybrid car was not only exhibited at GIIAS 2025. However, the right-hand drive version was also brought to the National Assemblers factory located in Purwakarta, West Java.
