GAC Aion plans to introduce a new model every two months, amidst fierce electric vehicle competition in Indonesia.
KatadataOTO – Chinese electric car manufacturer, GAC Aion has high targets for the Indonesian market. They want to become one of the top three best-selling electric car brands in the country.
Referring to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), currently, the wholesale figures (distribution from factory to dealer) for Chinese brands are still dominated by models from BYD.
In the top three are the BYD M6, Denza D9, and the newest model, the BYD Sealion 7. Followed by the Chery J6 and Wuling Air ev.
Facing increasingly strong competition in Indonesia, GAC revealed a plan to attract consumer interest.
“Every two months, a new model,” said Major Qin, Chief Operating Officer of GAC Indonesia when met in Tangerang some time ago.
Then, to maintain competitive prices, the models offered will be locally assembled at their production facility located in Purwakarta.
Instead of the Aion Y Plus, the first product to be locally assembled will be the Aion V. However, he confirmed that eventually all models from GAC will have Completely Knocked Down (CKD) status.
The hope is that this year, this strategy can make GAC one of the best-selling electric car brands in the country.
However, GAC will indeed face stiff competition from various other Chinese brands that are increasingly aggressive in introducing new products at competitive prices.
“We hope to become a top-three electric car brand in Indonesia. We hope to achieve that target this year,” Major emphasized.
For your information, some GAC Aion products for Indonesian consumers currently are the Aion Y Plus, Hyptec HT, Aion V, and the newest, Aion UT.
The Aion UT has the most compact size among the others, targeting consumers who want to use an environmentally friendly vehicle for urban mobility with their family.
The product was officially launched at GIIAS 2025. If consumers are interested, the price range for the Aion UT is around Rp 330 million on the road in Jakarta.
A GAC representative said that the estimated price could still change. Then for the Standard type, the figure will be below Rp 330 million.
