KatadataOTO – The government wants Indonesia to show its independence in the automotive industry. To that end, they plan to create a national car.

The idea above has apparently received a lot of support. Such as from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).

“If Indonesia wants to make a national car, we support it. We strongly support the Indonesian car program,” said Jongkie D. Sugiarto, Vice Chairman of Market Development for Gaikindo in North Jakarta some time ago.

According to Jongkie, the presence of a four-wheeled vehicle made by the nation's children will have a positive impact on consumers.

For example, it adds to the four-wheeled vehicle options that people can buy.

However, Gaikindo believes the national car program cannot be made carelessly. There must be very careful planning.

“The policy must also be in line with the government's plan to create a national car,” continued Jongkie.

In addition, Gaikindo also welcomes the news that the price of the national car will be under Rp 300 million.

Jongkie believes this will make people more interested in owning one.

“Thankfully, I really support it. If it can be done, wow, I'd be happy,” Jongkie affirmed.

As a reminder, Pindad has prepared industrial land in Subang, West Java to produce the national car.

They are also targeting a production capacity of 500 thousand units per year. Starting with 100 thousand units in 2028 as the initial phase.

“The development of a national car cannot be just a program, we must conduct piloting for technological innovation and build its ecosystem,” said Sigit P. Santosa, President Director of PT Pindad, on a different occasion.

On the other hand, Agus Gumiwang, the Minister of Industry (Menperin), confirmed that the production of the national car will be carried out soon.

“We project the national car will start production in 2027,” said Agus.

Agus said that detailed discussions regarding the national car involve Pindad.

Later, the meeting will discuss the type of vehicle to be produced. Then, the technology to be used.

In addition, the technology applied in the production process, pricing strategy, marketing strategy, and after-sales service.

"The discussion of these many strategic matters is to prepare and realize the President's directive so that Indonesia can soon have a national car,” added Agus.

Then, the Ministry of Industry and Pindad opened up the possibility of collaboration with other parties.

So they can jointly develop the national car. President Prabowo Subianto's dream of having a local vehicle can soon be realized.
