Garda Oto Admits It Doesn't Just Accept Any Green-Plated Vehicle

Garda Oto cannot simply accept customers with green-plated vehicles, as it takes many factors into consideration.

KatadataOTO – Although operating extensively in Batam, Garda Oto is quite cautious when accepting customers with green-plated vehicles. This is because cars with these plates generally have spare parts that are more difficult to obtain.

This is because these cars are imported as Completely Built-Up (CBU) units by general importers. Therefore, it is possible that some spare parts are not available in the country.

“In principle, we accept them, but we might be more cautious because the repair standard requires using genuine spare parts. So, for these vehicles, the availability of their spare parts must be confirmed first,” said Aufar Saskara, Head of the Asuransi Astra Batam Branch (21.06).

Not only that, the workshops for repairing damage must also meet the standards set by Asuransi Astra. This requirement is certainly not easy for just any workshop to meet.

It should be noted that green-colored license plates are only allowed to operate in free trade zones. These units receive facilities in the form of exemption from import duties.

This is in accordance with Police Regulation No. 7 of 2021 concerning Motor Vehicle Registration and Identification, article 45 letter d, which states that green plates with black writing are for motor vehicles in free trade zones that receive import duty exemption facilities and are based on statutory provisions.

Thanks to this, the price of the car is cheaper than the official price from manufacturers in the country. However, these units are not allowed to leave the zone.

Green-colored license plates have been introduced in four free trade zones in Indonesia. However, these units are generally found in the Batam area, Riau Islands.

The green color indicates that the car operates only within the free trade zone and can enjoy special facilities related to international trade.

Thus, the use of these green license plates can be considered a specific identification for vehicles in the international trade sector.

Free Trade Zone Locations in Indonesia

  • Batam, Riau Islands,
  • Bintan, Riau Islands,
  • Karimun, Riau Islands
  • Sabang Port, Aceh.
