KatadataOTO – Geely has finally entered the Indonesian market. The Chinese manufacturer has taken a number of strategic steps.
One of them is launching the Geely EX5. In fact, the electric car will be produced domestically.
More precisely, it will utilize the new facility owned by PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor) located in Purwakarta, West Java.
“Indonesia is a very important market for Geely. Therefore, we are pleased to be able to build a supporting facility in Bekasi,” said Evin Ye, Vice President of Geely Auto International Corporation in Jakarta, Wednesday (22/1).
Evin stated that their EV (Electric Vehicle) will begin assembly at the Handal factory in the second quarter of this year.
According to him, this step is in line with Geely's commitment to maintain its presence in the country. It also supports the development of the domestic automotive industry.
A similar sentiment was expressed by Victor Gao, Director of Geely Auto Indonesia. He expressed his pleasure in collaborating with Handal Indonesia Motor.
Victor also hopes their collaboration will have a positive impact on both parties in the future.
He explained that the decision to produce the Geely EX5 in Bekasi is a form of support for the development of the national electric four-wheeled vehicle market.
“After a long time, we are finally official partners and family from this moment on,” said Victor.
Through the collaboration with Handal, Geely is able to pursue the TKDN (Local Component Level). This allows them to take advantage of government incentives in 2025.
For your information, in their collaboration, Geely will provide an independent research and development space. This is to fulfill the commitment to bring the latest features.
Furthermore, it aims to encourage the development of electric cars in Indonesia, so that the industry grows more rapidly.
Geely's entry into the HIM-owned facility is expected to be part of the country's progress, and as a brand, to be more widely accepted by the public.
“We hope for a productive collaboration, for a sustainable future of the Indonesian automotive industry. We are confident that Geely will become one of the biggest brands in Indonesia in the future,” said Denny Siregar, Chief Executive Officer of PT Handal Indonesia Motor.
It should be noted that Geely plans to market a number of vehicle models. For example, PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle), ICE (Internal Combustion Engine), and expanding its BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) products.
