KatadataOTO – The launch of the Geely Xingyuan or Starwish in Indonesia is just a matter of time. Unfortunately, this electric car caught fire in China.

Reporting from Carnewschina on Friday (07/11), the incident occurred in the industrial area of Suzhou, Jiangsu on October 23, 2025.

Seeing this, Geely Auto Indonesia has spoken out about their prospective new electric car in the country.

“Of course, we are monitoring the news and waiting for a response from the head office,” said Constantinus Herlijoso, Sales & Channel Development Director of Geely Auto Indonesia in Gading Serpong, Tangerang some time ago.

Herlijoso stated that they are waiting to find out why the Geely Starwish or Xingyuan was engulfed in flames.

According to him, the fire in the Electric Vehicle (EV) was reportedly not caused by the battery, as it started with a pop from inside the cabin.

“So it's possible, as we know, that people still like to leave sensitive items, especially those sensitive to heat, inside the car,” he continued.

Even so, Geely Auto Indonesia cannot yet confirm the cause. They are waiting for a response from the head office in China.

The Chinese brand is also continuously working to ensure the safety of the electric car they will bring to the country. This is important so that consumers feel at ease using it.

“We continue to evaluate and monitor, because in the laboratory owned by Geely, we always test the safety of the battery,” Herlijoso affirmed.

Now Available for Pre-order

For your information, the Geely Starwish was previously displayed at the GIIAS 2025 event. Some salespeople have even opened pre-orders.

“The price of the Geely Starwish is in the Rp 250 million to Rp 300 million range. It will definitely be below the EX5,” said a Geely salesperson when contacted by KatadataOTO some time ago.

The Geely Starwish uses the Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) platform. This allows the EV to offer two battery capacity options, namely 30.12 kWh and 40.16 kWh.

Based on the CLTC testing method, each of the above batteries offers a range of 310 km and 410 km on a single charge, respectively.

According to circulating rumors, the Geely Starwish will be officially marketed in Indonesia in the fourth quarter of this year. It might be launched during the GJAW 2025 event, which takes place late this November.
