KatadataOTO – PT HMID (Hyundai Motors Indonesia) will bring their newest electric car, the Ioniq 9, to the Indonesian market this year. For your information, the Ioniq 9 was previously presented as the Seven Concept prototype at IIMS 2024.

The SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) is indeed one of the vehicle types favored by consumers. Various manufacturers from China have also started introducing EVs with larger capacities, both 6-seaters and 7-seaters.

“We will try to bring the CBU (Completely Built Up) from South Korea first this year to show to Indonesian consumers,” said Ju Hun Lee, President Director of PT HMID, on the sidelines of the Media Test Drive event in Lampung, Thursday (6/2).

He emphasized that his party will conduct a study first to see consumer interest in the Ioniq 9.

“Next year, there will be planning for production preparation in Indonesia. Globally, the Ioniq 9 is very popular, so as far as I know, the production capacity in Korea is completely full,” said Ju Hun Lee.

They are confident that the Ioniq 9 will be in demand by local consumers. However, if it is imported to Indonesia for the first time, the quantity will not be very large.

“But production in Indonesia will be accelerated so that the demand can be met,” he asserted.

For your information, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 has several differences from the concept version that was displayed at the IIMS exhibition last year. Because the interior does not feature a futuristic lounge design, it still uses regular seats and has a capacity for six passengers.

Although it is touted as a distant cousin of the Kia EV9, there is one significant difference: the Ioniq 9's larger battery capacity of 110.3 kWh, with a range of 620 km based on WLTP testing.

When it is launched, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 will be the largest-dimension electric car marketed by PT HMID in Indonesia.

Currently, there are several electric car options with six to seven-passenger configurations, but they are dominated by products from China. For example, the BYD M6, Maxus Mifa 7 and Mifa 9, and in the premium class, there is the Zeekr 009.
