Rosan stated that the government is considering Pindad Maung to become Indonesia's national electric car.

KatadataOTO – The growth of electric cars in Indonesia is difficult to contain. Various products are enlivening the domestic market.
This has encouraged the government to develop locally or domestically made EVs (Electric Vehicles).
One of them is by making the Pindad Maung tactical vehicle a national electric car in the near future.
“We already have the Maung, there might be further development. We will discuss and work on it further later,” said Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, to Antara.
Rosan said that developing the Pindad Maung into an electric four-wheeled vehicle can accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
It will also push the domestic automotive industry in a more environmentally friendly direction, in line with the government's mission.
“We are consistent with achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. In fact, President Prabowo Subianto wants it to be even faster,” Rosan continued.
Previously, the idea of making the Pindad Maung a national electric car had been raised by several parties. As stated by Kawendra Lukistian, a member of Commission IV of the DPR RI.
He stated that this step is an opportunity to strengthen the role of SOEs on the global stage, especially in the automotive industry.
“We are all aware that the shift in automotive use is already heading towards electric. We really hope that SOEs, with us having Pindad, can become a national EV player,” said Kawendra
He noted that SOEs have established collaborations with various automotive manufacturers, for example, such as Tesla and BMW.
“Why not be pushed to become a national player, before prioritizing others,” Kawendra asserted.
On the other hand, PT Pindad already has a prototype, namely the Pindad Morino EV, which was introduced some time ago.
Based on information on the official PT Pindad website, the Morino EV is a light, four-wheeled electric tactical vehicle to support high-mobility operations.
Unfortunately, there are no detailed explanations about Pindad's EV. However, this product is equipped with an electric motor that can produce a peak power of 160 hp.
Furthermore, the driver can push the Pindad Morino EV to a speed of up to 100 km/h. Meanwhile, on a single charge, it has a range of up to 170 KM.
