KatadataOTO – The electric motorcycle subsidy in 2025 is just empty talk. Making the Electric Vehicle (EV) market very sluggish last year.
This has led some parties to no longer hold high hopes for government assistance in the 2026 period.
As stated by the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (Aismoli). According to them, the government currently has other focuses.
“Regarding incentives, Aismoli understands that the government has various broader and more important strategic priorities,” said Budi Setiyadi, Chairman of Aismoli, when contacted by KatadataOTO some time ago.
Budi did not deny that the electric motorcycle subsidy has been quite helpful for manufacturers so far.
Because sales of Alva, Gesits, Rakata, and United were boosted. This was because public interest in EVs increased.
“However, even without incentives, the industry remains committed to growing,” Budi continued.
Furthermore, it was explained that Aismoli sees other ways to boost electric motorcycle sales in 2026.
Such as by implementing non-fiscal policies. Take for example the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2022.
It discusses the use of battery-based electric motor vehicles as operational service vehicles and/or individual service vehicles in central and regional government agencies.
This is considered important, as it is a step to accelerate the energy transition. It aims to encourage the use of EVs within government circles through various schemes.
For example, purchasing electric motorcycles, leasing, or converting old vehicles. In addition, developing the EV ecosystem in the country.
Aismoli believes that with various government agencies using EVs, the market can become vibrant again.
The manufacturers' stocks of electric motorcycles can be sold quickly. No longer sitting in warehouses as they did in 2025.
On the other hand, Aismoli has set a fairly high target for electric motorcycle sales in 2026. They want 100 thousand units to be sold this year.
The Chairman of Aismoli explained that there are several supporting factors that can realize this target. Such as the readiness of the domestic EV ecosystem.
“Especially the equitable distribution of infrastructure, product reliability, and increasingly mature after-sales services,” Budi concluded.
Thanks to the various things above, it is believed that it can encourage people to switch from conventional two-wheeled vehicles.
So that they become interested in using electric motorcycles. Especially to meet daily mobility needs.
