HIM Speaks Out on Ford's Production Plan at Handal Plant

KatadataOTO – A number of car manufacturers will start production in Indonesia. One that is being widely discussed is Ford-RMA Indonesia.

Before having its own production facility, this manufacturer will reportedly collaborate with Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM).

Handal also commented on Ford's plan.

"I mentioned there have been discussions with several brands," said Jongkie D. Sugiarto, Vice President Commissioner of HIM in North Jakarta some time ago.

Unfortunately, Jongkie was still hesitant to leak Handal's big plan.

Because everything is still in process. So he cannot disclose the news of the collaboration with Ford.

"As for when (the collaboration deal happens), it depends on them," Jongkie continued.

Nevertheless, Ford is said to have visited the Handal factory. They looked at the various facilities there.

They also looked at what car brands are produced there. So they could get to know Handal better.

"But they already declared it at that time. Handal has more than a thousand people (employees)," Jongkie affirmed.

For your information, Ford has indeed shown its intention to enliven the new car market in Indonesia.

They are even said to be ready to expand their dealer network in the country, increase CBU imports, and prepare the foundation to start local assembly in 2028.

Ford also asked for the government's views on the direction of industrial, investment, trade, and fiscal policies.

So that Ford can determine the direction of their business in the coming years.

Ford's decision to invest in the country was welcomed by many parties. Including from the ranks of ministers of President Prabowo Subianto.

However, Ford does not want to step on the gas just yet. Because there are still some technical issues that need to be resolved.

Starting from government policies to the technology they use. This is to smooth out Ford's plans.

In addition, Ford also presented its CBU import roadmap for 2024-2027. Then there is also an investment plan for the initial phase of the local industry worth Rp 76 billion.

Plus dealer network support of Rp 25 billion. So they can accelerate more aggressively.

Such as regulations for double cabin and SUVs, the certification process, to the development of reciprocal tariff negotiations between Indonesia and the United States.
