Not a hybrid, Honda confirms the e:N1 electric car will launch first this year, specifically in the first quarter.
KatadataOTO – PT HPM (Honda Prospect Motor) will bring its first electric car to Indonesia in 2025. Honda has confirmed that the new model will debut in the first quarter of this year.
It should be noted that the Honda e:N1 electric car was first introduced to the public at the GIIAS 2024 (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) event alongside the Stepwgn e:HEV.
Although hybrid cars receive incentives, Honda Indonesia will instead introduce the e:N1 first under a CBU (Completely Built Up) scheme, meaning it will be fully imported.
“The launch of the Honda e:N1 is still on schedule for the first quarter of this year. It is not yet included in the current incentive scheme,” said Yusak Billy, Sales & Marketing and Aftersales Director of PT HPM to KatadataOTO some time ago.
He has not provided a price range, but there is a chance the price tag will be high because it is not yet locally assembled and Honda has no plans to register the e:N1 for the electric car incentive program.
On a separate occasion, he did not deny that there are still several factors hindering the adoption of battery-based electric vehicles in Indonesia.
The three main factors are infrastructure, poor resale value, and technological developments.
Nevertheless, the company is committed to supporting government policies and presenting electric cars to complete Honda's electrification lineup in the country. However, as this is still the beginning for Honda, there are no plans for local assembly in the near future.
“From an economic and production scale perspective, for the introduction, we usually import first,” said Billy.
For your information, the Honda e:N1 is part of Honda's roadmap in Indonesia. The product is their first electric SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) in the world, debuting in China in 2022 under the names e:NS1 and e:NP1.
After being introduced in Europe in mid-2023, the e:N1 made its Southeast Asian debut in the Thai market in early 2024.
The Honda e:N1 is equipped with a 68.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a capable range of 500 km on a single charge.
To make charging easier for owners, the e:N1 is equipped with fast-charging technology, taking 50 minutes to charge to 80 percent of the battery's capacity.
