How BYD Ensures Consumers Can Safely Modify Vehicles

KatadataOTO – Modifications are often done by vehicle owners to enhance the appearance or add functionality to the car. This is no exception for owners of electric cars.

BYD cars have also become one of the brands that owners are starting to modify, especially in the audio sector.

BYD revealed that their product line, especially the newly launched Denza D9, is already equipped with a capable audio system. 

It's undeniable that consumers have their own preferences when it comes to car audio. But there are concerns about the warranty being voided if EV (Electric Vehicle) owners perform modifications.

Responding to this, a BYD representative emphasized that audio sector modifications do not automatically void the warranty.

“We are not that specific about voiding (the warranty) due to audio installation; we look at it on a case-by-case basis,” said Luther Panjaitan, Head of PR and Government Relations at PT BYD Motor Indonesia in Jakarta recently.

He further explained that a number of fundamental systems and cables in the car, or those directly related to the car's electrical system, are made inaccessible so they cannot be modified carelessly.

Thus, it is hoped that modifications made by BYD car owners can be done according to their needs without having to interfere with the core electrical components of the vehicle.

“We have anticipated the electrical network. Don't let the (audio) installation interfere with the main electrical system,” he asserted.

Electric Car Audio Modification Cannot Be Done Carelessly

Installing a new audio system in an electric car should be done at an experienced workshop that has technicians trained to handle EVs.

Previously explained by Eddie Soesanto, owner of Cartens Autosound Jakarta, installing audio in an EV is simpler, but there is one thing to pay attention to.

“When modifying the audio in an electric car, there is an orange-colored cable which is an electrical cable. That must not be touched,” said Eddie when met by KatadataOTO some time ago.

According to him, this orange cable is present in every electric car. Then there is a chance that audio modification can affect the driving range.

This is similar to an audio upgrade in a conventional car, where its operation results in higher fuel consumption than usual.
