The Hyundai Ioniq 9 was recorded in Gaikindo's wholesales data, with one unit distributed to dealers as of November 2025.
KatadataOTO – PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) still seems intent on bringing the electric car Hyundai Ioniq 9 to the country.
The fierce competition with Chinese manufacturers has had a significant impact on Hyundai's electric car sales in Indonesia.
In terms of price, Chinese electric cars are sold more competitively. The cheapest one even reaches the Rp 170 million range.
While Hyundai has the Ioniq 6 with a price tag of Rp 1.2 billion, BYD presents its competitor, the Seal, which is sold from Rp 600 million upwards. This makes it an attractive alternative for consumers.
Their line of cars that are already locally assembled or Completely Knocked Down (CKD) are also sold for Rp 700 million to Rp 800 million, a far cry from many other Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs).
Furthermore, brands like Denza are starting to enter the premium segment but with prices below Rp 1 billion.
Therefore, it is suspected that Hyundai will bring in a new model to reinvigorate its sales in Indonesia.
Based on KatadataOTO's investigation, it was noted that PT HMID has one new product in Gaikindo's wholesales data, namely the Ioniq 9.
The model is listed under the name Ioniq 9 Calligraphy AWD. Calligraphy itself is usually used by Hyundai for their highest-tier models.
As of November 2025, one unit of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 Calligraphy AWD was distributed from the factory to dealers.
Previously in August 2025, Hyundai had indeed registered the Motor Vehicle Sales Value (NJKB) for the Ioniq 9 as listed on the Samsat-PKB page.
It was stated that the NJKB for the Hyundai Ioniq 9 is Rp 699 million. This is not the final price benchmark as this figure does not yet include other costs such as taxes.
At that time, Hyundai stated its intention to bring in the Hyundai Ioniq 9 as a Completely Built Up (CBU) unit, or a fully imported vehicle, for the first stage as an introduction.
However, until now, news of the Ioniq 9's arrival has faded. KatadataOTO has tried to confirm with Hyundai, but has not yet received a response.
If it enters Indonesia, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 will be the twin of the Kia EV9. Its battery capacity is larger at 110.3 kWh, allowing it to travel up to 620 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
Looking at the economic conditions and the sluggish purchasing power of the public, there is a high chance the Hyundai Ioniq 9 will only be introduced to consumers starting in 2026.
