KatadataOTO – PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) had planned the arrival of the electric car Hyundai Ioniq 9 at the end of 2025.

In the Gaikindo data released in December 2025, the name Hyundai Ioniq 9 was in the wholesales category. One unit was even distributed to a dealer in November.

There was only one variant registered in the Gaikindo data, namely the Hyundai Ioniq 9 Calligraphy AWD, a.k.a. the highest variant of the model.

However, news of the Hyundai Ioniq 9's arrival has faded with the presence of various Chinese brands in the country.

It is almost certain that Hyundai has canceled bringing the Ioniq 9 to the Indonesian market this year, considering the market conditions and the economic situation that has not fully recovered.

“Hyundai Motors Indonesia continues to monitor and study the development of the electric vehicle market in Indonesia to ensure the right steps are taken going forward,” said Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, COO of PT HMID, to KatadataOTO recently.

He was also reluctant to further elaborate on the launch plans for the Hyundai Ioniq 9 in the country. But there is a high probability that the model will only be introduced next year.

Previously, the prototype version of the Hyundai Ioniq 9, the Seven Concept, was showcased to consumers in the country at the Indonesia International Motor Show or IIMS 2024.

The following year, the Motor Vehicle Sales Value (NJKB) of the Ioniq 9 was listed on the Samsat-PKB website, strengthening suspicions of the product's imminent arrival.

Even last February, PT HMID optimistically stated that the Hyundai Ioniq 9 would be introduced to consumers in the country.

This was a form of Hyundai's support for the government's electrification plan. The Ioniq 9 was also said to have the potential to be locally assembled if it received a positive response.

Considering Hyundai has already established its own assembly facility in Indonesia. The South Korean manufacturer has assembled two electric car models, namely the Ioniq 5 and Kona Electric.

If it enters Indonesia, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 must be competitive in terms of price and features to face Chinese cars.

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 will be the twin of the electric car Kia EV9. Built on the same platform, the Kia EV9 is sold for around Rp 1.9 billion on the road in Jakarta.
