KatadataOTO – Hyundai will temporarily halt production of the Ioniq 5 and Kona Electric. This policy will be implemented at their factory in South Korea.

Reporting from Yonhap, there has been a decline in export market demand for these cars, particularly in Europe, Canada, and the United States. This is despite the fact that both models have been quite popular with the global community.

Therefore, Hyundai plans to temporarily halt the production line at the factory. This will be carried out from April 24 to 30, 2025.

This decline in demand is inseparable from changes in electric vehicle incentive policies in several countries. As a result, people are thinking twice before deciding to buy one.

Canada and several European countries like Germany have indeed reduced or even eliminated electric vehicle subsidies. Meanwhile, the United States is facing uncertainty due to high tariff policies under the administration of President Donald Trump.

Hyundai Motor itself has actually tried to overcome this situation in various ways. One of them is by offering a 0 percent interest financing program in North America.

In addition, they also provided down payment discounts in several European countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, these steps did not yield the desired results.

This production halt is actually not the first time. In February 2025, the South Korean manufacturer also did something similar.

The decline in demand for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is also being felt in Indonesia. Based on Gaikindo data, wholesales in March 2025 were only 84 units, a decrease from the previous month's 104 units.

Meanwhile, for the Hyundai Kona Electric, sales in March 2025 were 37 units. That number also weakened compared to February, which recorded 59 units.

Nevertheless, Hyundai's electric car sales cannot be underestimated. This is because they recorded wholesales of 258 electrified vehicle units throughout March 2025, placing them as the sixth-largest EV manufacturer in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, their total electric car wholesales for the period of January to March 2025 were 574 units.
