Launching soon in Indonesia, the iCar V23 electric car has had its safety level tested by ASEAN NCAP.
KatadataOTO – The electric-powered Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) iCar V23 underwent an ASEAN NCAP crash test some time ago and successfully obtained a five-star or perfect score.
According to ASEAN NCAP's statement, the unit tested was the iCar V23 for Southeast Asian countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
ASEAN NCAP revealed that the iCar V23 is the first electric car under the Chery Group to undergo a crash test with the 2021-2025 regulations or protocol.
The model, also known as the iCaur V23, has gone through several testing categories such as Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS).
“The Chery iCaur V23 obtained a five-star ASEAN NCAP rating with an average score of 91.02 points,” wrote the official ASEAN NCAP statement, quoted Wednesday (07/01).
In more detail, the test score for adult occupant protection when the car is involved in a collision is 31.77 points. Meanwhile, for child occupant safety, the score is 42.50 points.
ASEAN NCAP also tested the function of safety features on the iCar V23, including Blind Spot Detection and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).
“The Chery iCar V23 is equipped with AEB City and Inter-Urban systems as standard across all variants. In testing, we confirmed that all these technologies function according to ASEAN NCAP criteria,” the report stated.
Overall, the iCar V23 has met the driving safety criteria, supported by six airbags and a number of safety features.
Based on the score achieved (91.02 points), the iCar V23 meets the requirements to obtain a five-star ASEAN NCAP rating.
For your information, the iCar V23 will enter Indonesia under PT Chery Sales Indonesia, but separate from the Chery brand.
Chery is keeping information about the model to be presented under wraps, but the iCar V23 is a strong candidate, debuting at the Indonesia International Motor Show or IIMS 2026.
“At IIMS 2026, we will bring a product that has been locally assembled,” said Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand at PT CSI in Jakarta some time ago.
