Amidst automotive challenges, Isuzu is confident that the commercial vehicle sector can still reap profits from exports.
KatadataOTO – The automotive market is facing various challenges, especially in 2025. The national economy is also considered not to have improved due to various factors.
Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), from January to June 2025, automotive retail sales only reached 390,467 units.
This result is down 9.7 percent from the same period the previous year, which was 432,453 units. Therefore, it deserves the attention of all related parties.
According to Gaikindo, this is due to sluggish car sales as a result of weakening public purchasing power and an economy that has not improved.
Despite this, PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) believes there is still room for growth through the export contribution of one of its products, the Traga.
According to Isuzu, sales of this Japanese brand have shown a positive trend over the last two months, marked by Isuzu's market share reaching 29 percent in the commercial vehicle segment.
“We are confident that with this positive trend, we can reach 30 percent by the end of the year, same as last year,” said Rian Erlangga, Business Strategy Division Head of PT IAMI, on the sidelines of GIIAS 2025 in Tangerang on Wednesday (23/07).
He further explained that Isuzu's optimism is formed by seeing the acceptance of Isuzu vehicles by business players in logistics transportation, warehousing, and retail distribution.
Data from Supply Chain Indonesia (SCI) reveals that the national transportation and warehousing sub-sector is predicted to grow by 12.53 percent in 2025.
Speaking of exports, the Isuzu Traga is said to still be the backbone of sales, recording a market share of 45.3 percent.
Meanwhile, in certain regions like East Java, its market share can be even larger, reaching 70 percent.
Therefore, Isuzu sees many export market opportunities by exploring new destination countries to market the Traga.
“The Local Content Level (TKDN) of the Traga is already 48.15 percent. We export products with high TKDN, which certainly advances the national automotive industry,” he affirmed.
For your information, 6,000 units of the Isuzu Traga were previously exported to the Philippines.
Looking back, the Isuzu Traga began to be exported to the Philippines in December 2019 with a total of 6,000 units. Then in 2024, the figure was 8,070 units.
The Isuzu Traga is exported to 16 countries, including the Philippines, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Laos, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Jamaica, and Paraguay.
