Isuzu unveils the VCCC electric vehicle prototype for the first time at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
KatadataOTO – Isuzu showcased a number of its flagship vehicle lines and future transportation innovations at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
This time, the prototype VCCC or Vertical Core Cycle Concept officially debuted, presenting a new mobility option to accommodate both people and cargo.
The VCCC concept car is planned to be presented in a production-ready version in 2027.
Therefore, the complete technical specifications have not yet been provided. However, Isuzu has revealed a few details.
“This vehicle has four batteries and can travel about 500 kilometers,” said Yoshiki Yashiro, from Isuzu's Public Relations Group in Japan, on Wednesday (29/10).
Then there are two charging options: conventional charging or a more time-efficient battery swap.
However, the main attraction is the flexibility of the VCCC. This electric-powered vehicle can drive autonomously or without a driver along a predetermined route.
The VCCC's cargo or rear bed can be replaced as needed. Interestingly, both the front section, i.e., the driver's cabin, and the cargo bed can move independently using sensors.
“The VCCC has autonomous driving, and this part (the rear) can move differently; it's modular,” said Yashiro.
Regarding technical specifications, Yashiro explained that Isuzu is still in the process of determining the type of battery to be used for the VCCC in the future.
“It could be a lithium-ion battery, but it could also be solid-state. We haven't decided yet,” Yashiro affirmed.
In general, the VCCC has four main functions: Transport Goods, Transport People, Transport Services, and Transport Locations.
In Isuzu's explanation during the Japan Mobility Show 2025, it was shown that the VCCC can function as both a passenger and a cargo vehicle.
The VCCC's cargo can also be transformed into other forms, such as a mobile café, according to the user's needs.
However, Isuzu is still keeping information about its development for mass production tightly under wraps.
However, the VCCC represents one of Isuzu's commitments to creating greener, more flexible, and environmentally friendly mobility for large vehicles.
The VCCC can be seen in person at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 until this coming November 9.
