KatadataOTO – The Isuzu D-Max is a product present to liven up the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.

The double cabin pickup is one of Isuzu's best-selling models in Thailand. Its newest version with a 2,200 cc engine was first marketed in Thailand.

In the same class with a not-so-different engine configuration, there are the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Raptor 2.0L with a 2,000 cc diesel engine.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, the Isuzu D-Max is currently available with a 1,900 cc diesel engine option.

The 2026 Isuzu D-Max is equipped with an RZ4F-coded engine whose capacity has been developed, claimed to produce greater power at 120 kW or around 160 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm.

All that power is channeled to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The double cabin pickup itself is claimed to have a following in Indonesia, both for personal use and commercial needs.

Seeing this, Isuzu is opening up the possibility of bringing the 2026 D-Max to the Indonesian market in the future.

“We are coordinating intensively with the principal to conduct a study regarding the possibility of the 2.2L engine entering Indonesia,” said Rian Erlangga, General Manager of Marketing for PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) in Japan recently.

The presence of the 2,200 cc engine version of the double cabin variant is believed to help strengthen the Isuzu D-Max's position as a reliable and tough vehicle for mining needs.

However, Isuzu is still unwilling to explicitly reveal its launch time.

But the arrival of this model is getting closer following its launch in Thailand. There is a possibility the Isuzu D-Max will be introduced as a replacement for the 1,900 cc engine variant in 2026.

For your information, the double cabin version of the 2026 Isuzu D-Max has received developments in various sectors including transmission and fuel efficiency.

Isuzu does not deny that fuel consumption remains one of the main considerations for consumers in the commercial segment.

The D-Max could be a sales booster for Isuzu domestically, competing directly with the Ford Ranger.

Referring to Gaikindo data for the January-September 2025 period, the total wholesales (distribution from factory to dealer) for the Ford Ranger, excluding the Raptor 2.0L, was 166 units. Meanwhile, the Isuzu D-Max recorded 208 units.
