Electric cars, according to Jaecoo, are still seeing a positive trend because they are exempt from Jakarta's odd-even policy.

KatadataOTO – The electrification era in Indonesia is enlivened by various new products and competitive prices. Not only electric cars, Chinese manufacturers like Jaecoo are also introducing Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles, or PHEVs.

PHEVs are becoming popular again thanks to the presence of Chinese brands. Previously, PHEVs were synonymous with high prices, especially when sold by Japanese manufacturers.

Nevertheless, Jaecoo believes that pure electric cars or Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) will still be more in demand, especially by Indonesian consumers.

“I think BEVs will be more popular in Jakarta because of the existing regulations,” said Jim Ma, Business Unit Director of Jaecoo Indonesia in Tangerang, recently.

The regulation in question is the odd-even policy during workdays from Monday to Saturday. Only cars with odd or even license plates corresponding to the date can pass through at certain hours.

However, electric cars are granted the privilege of being able to pass through odd-even zones without getting a ticket. Their license plates are also equipped with a blue stripe to differentiate them from conventional vehicles.

This advantage, according to Jaecoo, remains one of the main attractions of electric cars for consumers in the Jakarta area.

“But if you look at it internationally, BEVs and PHEVs are already more popular than gasoline cars and hybrid cars,” said Jim.

Regardless, Jaecoo is committed to continuing to present an electrification lineup that is not limited to just electric cars but also includes PHEVs.

Thus, consumers are still presented with a complete range of choices, which can be selected according to their mobility needs.

Speaking of the target consumer, with a price range starting from Rp 200 million and up, Jaecoo claims to have successfully attracted many young generation buyers.

“Our J5 EV customers are actually very young, around 30 to 40 years old,” said Jim.

Jim revealed that consumers in that age group tend to be more open to change and new things, such as what Jaecoo offers with the J5 EV.

For your information, the Jaecoo J5 EV is a pure electric Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) with a price tag starting from Rp 299 million.

Since its launch, this model has been ordered more than 6,000 times. The brand, which is part of the Chery Group, is currently trying to expedite the delivery of units to consumers, as not all have been delivered yet.
