KatadataOTO – Chery Group's sub-brand, Jaecoo, is preparing several new products for Indonesian consumers this year. One of them is the J8 SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle).

The presented Jaecoo J8 is a gasoline-powered car, not yet equipped with plug-in hybrid technology like its siblings, the Jaecoo J7 SHS (Super Hybrid System) and the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH (Chery Super Hybrid).

During a brief test drive opportunity held by Jaecoo, the units used were still made in Malaysia and China.

However, this car, touted as a 'budget' version of the Range Rover, is confirmed to be locally assembled. Therefore, its price is believed to be more competitive.

“Assembly will be at PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor). The specifications are more or less the same (as the Jaecoo J8 in Malaysia and China),” said Rian Derdiean Tirto, Head of Product for Jaecoo in Sentul, on Monday (16/05).

Currently, PT HIM has two assembly facility locations, namely in Bekasi and Purwakarta. It is not yet known which factory will be the assembly site for the Jaecoo J8.

“It will also depend on Handal, we will discuss it. Because we will need to talk about the volume,” said Rian.

For your information, Jaecoo is a sub-brand that focuses more on offering premium-class vehicles with capable specifications for off-road purposes.

Thanks to a joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover in 2011, Jaecoo owners can get a small taste of various technologies found in the Range Rover.

At a glance, it has a design language identical to the Range Rover, appearing elegant without many additional body kits and using flush-style door handles.

The Jaecoo J8's interior feels luxurious due to the absence of various physical control buttons, replaced by a large head unit in the center of the dashboard. Second-row passengers can enjoy captain seats.

The front and second-row seats can be adjusted electrically, complete with massage and seat heating functions.

The transmission controls have been moved to a stalk on the right side behind the steering wheel.

Meanwhile, the center console features a knob for adjusting driving modes, seat temperature, and a 50-watt wireless charger.

Unfortunately, there is no information regarding the exact price yet. However, the estimated range is between Rp 700 million and Rp 800 million.
