Coinciding with the launch of the monthly bulletin, Katadata and Kadin ESDM held a discussion regarding the EV ecosystem in Indonesia.
KatadataOTO – The Energy Insights Forum was officially held by Katadata together with Kadin (Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), ESDM (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources) on Monday (02/06).
The initiative was held as a discussion forum for stakeholders and related automotive industry players, especially in the era of electrification.
At the same time, Kadin ESDM and Katadata announced a new form of collaboration: a monthly bulletin with a primary focus on EV (Electric Vehicle) in its initial stages.
The bulletin, launched monthly, is expected to become a source of information or a data provider for related parties.
“Whatever is strategic, if we don't have data or it's not managed with intelligence, we certainly won't be able to achieve our goals well,” said Anindya Novyan Bakrie, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia at The Maple Brasserie, Monday.
The monthly bulletin in collaboration with Katadata can also be used as a reference for Kadin when conveying developments related to ESDM, including to the public.
On this occasion, representatives from BYD were also present as one of the investors and producers of environmentally friendly electric-powered vehicles in Indonesia, as well as Periklindo (Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association).
A number of challenges in the global market can impact Indonesia, for example, the price war and competition of electric cars which is heating up in China.
This has led many manufacturers to target export markets, with Indonesia being one of the targets.
“Indonesia is one of the profitable regions,” said Moeldoko, Chairman of Periklindo, on the sidelines of the Energy Insights Forum in Jakarta, Monday.
He continued that the government needs to prepare several things to attract investors. First is economic, political, and security stability.
Then, efficiency and commitment to developing various infrastructures. And regulatory certainty.
“We currently lack certainty, let's pursue all of that. So there is an opportunity that must be seized,” said Moeldoko.
Moeldoko believes there are still many opportunities the country can seize when it comes to electrification. Therefore, regulatory stability and long-term plans need to be a focus.
