KatadataOTO – Kia in Indonesia offers two electric vehicle models, namely the EV6 and EV9. Both are still targeting upper-middle-class consumers, with a price range of nearly IDR 2 billion.

At the GJAW 2024 event, Kia brought one of its newest electric car models, the Kia EV3. Its appearance is similar to the EV9, but its dimensions are more compact and it has a five-passenger capacity.

The car, touted as the 5-seat version of the EV9, has the potential to be offered at a lower price than its predecessors.

Last year, PT KIA (Kreta Indo Arta) revealed that there is indeed a chance for the Kia EV3 to be offered to domestic customers.

When reconfirmed, a representative from Kia Indonesia stated that the EV3 received a positive response from visitors.

“We are currently studying with the principal to see if the (EV3) is suitable for the Indonesian market,” said Andri Gunawan, Sales Operation Department Head of PT Kia, when met in Jakarta on Wednesday (19/03).

He hopes the Kia EV3 can be introduced in Indonesia this year, after considering several factors first.

“Indeed, the response has been good, including quite positive enthusiasm from visitors,” said Andri.

Regarding the positioning of the Kia EV3, it is not yet certain if the model will be the entry-level version of Kia's electric cars or if it will target a different consumer class than the EV6 and EV9.

Andri explained that Kia Indonesia will coordinate with the principal to determine the target consumers for the Kia EV3.

“We will provide information soon. Hopefully (this year),” said Andri.

For your information, the Kia EV3 was launched globally in Taiwan in 2024, specifically at the Kia EV Day event.

This mini version of the EV9 has a sleek and elegant appearance. Referring to global specifications, the Kia EV3 is available in two types: a 58.3 kWh battery or an 81.4 kWh battery.

The inclusion of this large-capacity battery allows the Kia EV3 to produce 201 hp and a peak torque of 283 at 5,000 rpm.

The 58.3 kWh battery variant can support a journey of 434 km, while the highest type, 81.4 kWh, has a claimed range of 600 km on a single charge.

In terms of price, the range is from IDR 500 million and up. In Indonesia, the Kia EV3 will enter the same class as the Chery Omoda E5, MG 4 E, BYD Atto 3, and Aion Y Plus
