KatadataOTO – The Mazda EZ-6 electric sedan, also known as the 6e in the global market, has a chance of being introduced in the country. It should be noted that PT EMI (Eurokars Motor Indonesia) currently only has one model, the MX-30.

Unlike the MX-30 EV (Electric Vehicle), the Mazda 6e offers more capable specifications with a driving range of up to 600 km on a single charge.

When asked about the Mazda 6e sedan, PT EMI did not deny the possibility of the model launching in Indonesia.

“We are currently observing what the (consumer) response will be like,” said Pramita Sari, Marketing and Communications General Manager of PT EMI, when met in South Jakarta on Wednesday (22/1).

For your information, the Mazda 6e can be considered the successor to the Mazda 6, which used a conventional engine. This model fills the sedan segment, which has a relatively small market.

However, some manufacturers are confidently bringing in electric-powered sedans. Such as the BYD Seal and, in the premium class, the BMW i7.

Therefore, the Mazda 6e could be an attractive option for sedan users who want to switch to environmentally friendly vehicles.

PT EMI has also begun to complete its electrification lineup by recently introducing the CX-80 PHEV. In the future, they are preparing another line of environmentally friendly vehicles for consumers.

Awaiting Direction from the Principal

On a separate occasion, Mazda Indonesia emphasized that whether or not the 6e enters Indonesia depends on the principal's decision.

“Everything depends on the direction from the master corporation as our principal. They have already thought through the entire launch plan,” said Ricky Thio, Chief Operating Officer of PT EMI, some time ago.

He was also unwilling to reveal more details about Mazda's future electrification plans. For now, it seems they will still rely on the MX-30, CX-60 (mild hybrid), and CX-80 PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle).

“For the next two, five, to 10 years, we don't know for sure (when a new Mazda EV will launch),” Ricky affirmed.
