KatadataOTO – Mazda is getting more serious about developing electric cars. They even plan to massively increase EV production by building a new production facility in Japan.
The factory will later focus on producing electric car batteries for use in their latest EVs. This move is believed to have an extraordinary impact on the company.
Mazda plans to build the factory in Iwakuni City, in Japan's Yamaguchi Prefecture. They will make Panasonic Energy their main component supplier.
Once operational, the factory is targeted to have a production capacity of 10 GWh.
The battery is claimed to be adapted to the electric car platform currently under development. Although he did not explain in detail, Masahiro Moro, CEO of Mazda, revealed that the new development will be completed by 2027.
Although they are just about to build a battery factory for electric vehicles, the company has not been idle. They already have the Mazda MX-30, which was launched in Indonesia some time ago.
The model comes with an attractive design thanks to the use of Freestyle Doors. Thanks to this, the car is not equipped with a B-pillar, making cabin access easier.
Inside the cabin, the Mazda MX-30 features a minimalist design. The manufacturer did not install many physical buttons, making it more pleasing to the eye.
Mazda has also embedded a Floating Console in the middle of the first-row cabin to help adjust several features such as the vehicle's cabin temperature.
To enhance comfort while driving, the Mazda MX-30 has been equipped with Bose speakers at 12 points.
The Mazda MX-30 is equipped with a 35.5 kWh capacity battery, which is sufficient for a journey of 200 km on a single charge.
This power storage source is used to drive an electric motor that can produce 143 hp and 271 Nm of torque. The power is balanced by the e-GVC Plus (Electronic G-Vectoring) feature to ensure stability when maneuvering.
A number of safety features have also been installed on the Mazda MX-30. Starting from i-Activsense, including Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning System, to Mazda Radar Cruise Control.
