KatadataOTO – Mazda has established a partnership with Changan Automobile in China. Their collaboration has resulted in two electric cars, namely the EZ-6 and EZ-60.
The Electric Vehicle (EV) EZ-6 is built on the same platform as the Changan Deepal L07, which is the EPA1.
Therefore, at a glance, both electric cars have very similar body proportions, dimensions, and several technical components.
Mazda then made several adjustments to their product, from the exterior to the interior.
This Japanese manufacturer has maintained its signature characteristics, especially on the fascia or front part of the Mazda EZ-6.
The EV is equipped with a closed Kodo-style grille, paired with slim LED headlights.
Interestingly, both the Mazda EZ-6 and the Changan Deepal L07 have a high chance of hitting Indonesian roads in the near future.
Of course, if this comes to fruition, it will be a challenge for Changan Indonesia in marketing the Deepal L07 electric car.
Considering Mazda has been selling cars in Indonesia for a long time, it has established a big name and a good reputation among domestic consumers.
Based on this fact, Changan Indonesia has spoken out about the conditions they will face in the local market.
"We don't have a (special strategy), because we will definitely target different segments," said Setiawan Surya, CEO of Changan Indonesia in Chongqing, China some time ago.
Surya admitted that he will implement his own way of marketing the Changan Deepal L07, including how to attract consumers in the country.
He is also confident that his product can compete and achieve success in the country's electric car market.
"Because we don't really know what their (Mazda's) strategy is like. We also don't know if the policy is only for China," he continued.
Nevertheless, there is still an opportunity for Changan to attract many consumers, as Mazda's previous electrification line was more popular with loyalists than with mass consumers.
Moreover, Chinese-made cars are generally sold at a more affordable price.
For your information, the Mazda EZ-6 is available in two variants: Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Range Extended EV (REEV).
Launched in China on September 25, the Mazda EZ-60 is offered from 119,900 yuan to 160,900 yuan, or about 279 million to 374.4 million rupiah.
