PHEVs are considered to have advantages over both electric and conventional cars, which is why Mazda is launching the CX-80.
KatadataOTO – PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is a type of hybrid car that combines the characteristics of conventional vehicles and BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles).
Not only can it be filled with gasoline, but owners can also charge the battery to extend the driving range.
Although still rare in Indonesia, Mazda sees an opportunity for PHEVs to sell well in Indonesia as a form of transition to pure electric cars.
PT EMI (Eurokars Motor Indonesia) also launched the CX-80 PHEV for loyal customers who want to experience the latest hybrid technology from Mazda. The Japanese brand revealed that there are several advantages of PHEVs compared to conventional hybrids.
“This car is already equipped with a portable charger, and charging it won't take long. If the consumer doesn't have a (wall charger at home), the portable charger can be used,” said Ricky Thio, Chief Operating Officer of PT EMI in South Jakarta some time ago.
Potential buyers also don't need to worry because Mazda has prepared supporting infrastructure such as charging stations at official dealerships and a portable charger for each unit.
He emphasized that every dealership offering the CX-80 PHEV is already equipped with charging facilities to make it easier for its users.
“Then we ensure all our mechanics are capable of handling PHEVs. So the aftersales team has been accelerated, making sure all mechanics are able,” he asserted.
This also underlies Mazda's decision to bring in PHEVs instead of conventional hybrids. For your information, they previously had one mild hybrid model, the CX-60, with a price tag that was not much different.
“Our sales team was also given in-depth training and understanding yesterday. This is what we will definitely do when marketing the PHEV,” Ricky affirmed.
In the future, after the PHEV, they are not ruling out the possibility of introducing a pure electric car again. One of the candidates is the 6e sedan, which is touted as the successor to the Mazda 6.
For your information, the Mazda CX-80 is equipped with a 2,500 cc engine and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. The additional power source allows the car to be operated in EV mode without gasoline assistance, offering an extra range of 60 km.
The Mazda CX-80 PHEV is available in two variant options, Elite and Kuro, both with the same price of Rp 1.19 billion on the road in Jakarta.
