KatadataOTO – At the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025, MG is not only showcasing new products but also the latest technology. One of them is an electric vehicle battery that has been made thinner yet remains efficient.

With a compact-sized battery, there are many things the company can do to develop its vehicles. Moreover, they claim the power storage capacity remains large and safe.

“The transition to electric vehicles must be accompanied by a sense of security and full confidence from consumers. Battery safety is not just about technical specifications but our commitment in designing every model,” said Jason Huang, CEO of MG Motor Indonesia.

MG calls its technology the Magic Cube and it is based on a Cell-to-Pack concept, allowing for the direct integration of battery cells into the structure without additional modules. Thanks to this, the battery has a thickness of only 110 mm.

Thanks to this, MG can design cars to have a lower center of gravity. This results in more optimal vehicle stability and maximizes cabin space for passenger comfort.

Although it has a compact size, MG claims to have designed the battery with a high energy density of up to 180 Wh/kg. Thus, the driving range can remain optimal.

Additionally, they have also reinforced it with nano-insulation, a fire-resistant layer, and installed an automatic pressure relief valve to provide more optimal protection.

Not only that, the MG battery has also passed various tests including exposure to temperatures up to 55°C, severe impacts, and has IP67 certification. This battery is designed to last for about 12 years, after which the battery will undergo a performance evaluation process.

If it is no longer fit for use, MG is ready to recycle it. Meanwhile, the car can still be used after a new battery is installed for a certain price.

“In China, we have built a very mature e-cycle system with CATL and Psychomotor. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, we are just developing it by partnering with local companies,” explained Joy Zheng.

There are several models using this battery technology, including the MG Cyberster. The car has a 77 kWh capacity battery that provides a range of up to 503 km on a single charge.
