KatadataOTO – Thuggery is still rampant in Indonesia. The latest incident was experienced by BYD during the construction process of their factory.
It was reported that the construction of their production facility in Subang, West Java was disrupted by a community organization (ormas).
This matter has even reached the ears of Moeldoko, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo).
“Well, this is not right, I support what the Governor of West Java is doing, just eradicate it,” said Moeldoko to Antara, Wednesday (23/04).
According to Moeldoko, thuggery is truly very detrimental. Because it can disrupt investment in Indonesia.
Therefore, he regrets the actions of the community organizations that disrupted the construction process of the BYD factory.
Moreover, the facility is touted to become the largest electric car factory in ASEAN.
“I urge that amidst the business climate situation which relatively needs attention, all of us, the people of Indonesia, must create a good investment climate,” said the former Presidential Chief of Staff.
He asked all parties to take firm action against thuggery. So that more people will want to invest their money in the country.
That way, job opportunities can become more abundant. Thus being able to reduce the number of unemployed.
“On one hand, it's ironic, we need to work and there are people (investors) coming to provide opportunities, but they are disturbed by others,” Moeldoko asserted.
Just a reminder, it was previously reported that the construction process of the BYD factory in Subang, West Java was disrupted by a community organization.
“I heard there was thuggery disrupting BYD's investment in Subang, West Java,” said Eddy Soeparno, Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI on his Instagram account.
Eddy deeply regrets that this happened. According to him, thuggery is very detrimental.
Especially when experienced by parties who are investing in the country, as BYD is doing.
“I think that must be dealt with firmly, the government needs to be firm in handling this problem,” Eddy continued.
He stated that firm action against thuggery is carried out solely to create a safe investment environment.
It should be noted that the BYD factory in Subang Smartpolitan, West Java will soon be completed. The facility is reportedly ready to produce electric cars by the end of 2025.
