KatadataOTO – The development of the national car is still ongoing. However, the government has leaked the latest news from the project.

One of them is regarding the price of the national car that will be marketed to all consumers in the country.

“So, in the future, we will push for a national car. We have checked in the field with Gaikindo, and indeed, the largest market share now is for cars under Rp 300 million,” said Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, during the opening of the Kadin National Leadership Meeting, quoted from a Kadin Indonesia YouTube video.

Indeed, a price tag like the one above is still quite popular among the public. Because it is considered suitable for the pockets of middle-class consumers.

Moreover, in that price range, there are many products that can be purchased. For example, the Toyota Veloz Hybrid, Daihatsu Xenia, and Ertiga.

Then, Chinese manufacturers also don't want to be left behind. There is Jaecoo which markets the J5 EV; the electric car is sold for a maximum of Rp 299.9 million.

In addition, BYD also offers their flagship Electric Vehicle (EV), the Atto 1. It is sold from Rp 199 million to Rp 235 million.

“So this is also being pushed by the government, making affordability a challenge,” Airlangga continued.

On the same occasion, Airlangga also conveyed that President Prabowo Subianto has requested a special budget.

Later, these funds will be used to carry out the national car project. So this plan can be realized in the near future.

National Car Attracts Foreign Parties

On the other hand, the national car project has captured the attention of many parties. Making them interested in taking part.

It is claimed that many international brands are starting to look at opportunities for cooperation with the Indonesian government.

Airlangga even said that a number of brands have offered to get involved. However, he could not provide details.

According to President Prabowo's aide, the exploration process is still ongoing. So he cannot disclose it yet.

The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs ensures that the official announcement will be made directly by the relevant parties to maintain the accuracy and transparency of the information.

"Yes, let them (the manufacturers) announce it later," Airlangga affirmed.

For your information, Hyundai Indonesia has reportedly submitted a proposal for a 7-seater electric vehicle concept model to be made into the national car.

Hyundai itself has quite large prospects thanks to its complete ecosystem in Indonesia. Starting from vehicle assembly plants to battery factories.
