The MG Cyber X electric SUV was officially unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, becoming a new challenger to the Chery J6.
KatadataOTO – The electric car MG Cyber X was officially introduced at the Shanghai Auto Show, China today. The Cyber X is the second model in the MG Cyber series, which previously only featured the Cyberster.
Its posture is the same as in the teaser released by MG some time ago. With a large and boxy body, it looks similar at a glance to the Chery J6 off-road SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) which is already marketed in Indonesia.
The difference is, the MG Cyber X does not have an additional compartment at the rear. It also has a more minimalist appearance and is equipped with a unique feature: pop-up headlights.
When not in use, the Cyber X's headlights can close, making the fascia appear more elegant. Right below the headlights, there is an extended LED bar and an illuminated MG emblem in the center area.
It seems the concept MG wants to use for the Cyber X is different from the Chery J6. Despite its large size, the Cyber X emphasizes a luxurious feel rather than a sporty one like an off-road SUV.
The MG Cyber X is also the first vehicle whose connectivity system is supported by the mobile phone brand Oppo.
Unfortunately, there is not much information yet regarding the technical specifications and price of the MG Cyber X.
However, it was previously reported that the MG Cyber X is built on the E3 platform made by SAIC, specifically designed for electric cars and can be used for various types of vehicles, including SUVs.
The MG Cyber X electric car is also equipped with many comprehensive features and is supported by AI (Artificial Intelligence). It also has an autonomous driving function from Horizon Robotics.
If marketed in Indonesia, it would certainly be an interesting choice alongside the Chery J6. Considering SUVs are quite popular with consumers in the country, as they are tough enough to tackle various road conditions.
However, MG needs to consider the selling price of the Cyber X if it is interested in bringing it to Indonesia. Because the Chery J6 is sold competitively, starting from Rp 500 million to Rp 700 million.
In addition, the Chery J6 electric car is already locally assembled at the facility owned by PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, MG has not yet produced a model from the Cyber series, namely the Cyberster. However, other models like the MG 4 EV are produced domestically, so its price can compete with other compact electric SUVs in the Republic of Indonesia.
