KatadataOTO – Nissan has officially sold its headquarters building in Yokohama for 97 billion Yen or Rp 10.5 trillion. The asset is now owned by MJI Godo Kaisha, a Tokyo-based real estate company.
This step was taken by the company to survive in the future after facing various challenges in recent times. However, Nissan is not moving its headquarters from the building.
According to APNews, they are now leasing it from the new owner, while the proceeds from the sale will be used to modernize internal systems at the headquarters. The company is also committed to launching an AI-based system, which is now increasingly developing.
Unfortunately, the rental cost they have to pay was not disclosed in detail.
Although no longer the owner, this move is believed to allow the company to continue operating normally for the next few years. They also do not lose the investment that has been made in the building.
It cannot be denied that Nissan has indeed experienced several difficult years. The situation became even more difficult after the merger plan with Honda hit a dead end in February 2025.
In the sales report for the April–September 2025 period, they reported a loss of 221.9 billion yen or equivalent to Rp24.2 trillion. The severity of the situation they face has forced the company to take various unpopular measures.
One of them is laying off thousands of employees worldwide. This step was taken gradually to reduce the company's operational costs.
In addition, in April 2025 they also agreed to sell their 51 percent stake in Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd (RNAIPL) to Renault. The transaction value is reportedly quite large, reaching 200 million euros, and will be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2025.
Thanks to this move, Renault's stake in the company becomes 100 percent. However, Nissan will receive the fresh funds needed to survive.
Nevertheless, Nissan insists it is not leaving the region. They will even continue to produce the Magnite locally so that sales can continue.
