KatadataOTO – Just like in Indonesia, BYD also succeeded in becoming the largest electric car manufacturer in Thailand in 2024. Throughout last year, the Chinese manufacturer managed to sell 70,137 units.
This figure actually represents an 8.1 percent decrease compared to 2023 but could not be beaten by other manufacturers. In fact, that number still controls a 38.5 percent market share of electric cars.
Reporting from CarNewsChina, the manufacturer has been present in Thailand since October 2022 with the Atto 3. In January 2023, they became the top choice for the electric car market, and now one out of every three EVs sold in the Land of the White Elephant is a BYD product.
MG is in second place with sales of 9,081 units or 12.9 percent of the total market. This is followed by Neta, which sold 7,969 units and captured an 11.4 percent market share.
Not only that, BYD has even become the best-selling car manufacturer in Singapore for the first time. They managed to sell 6,191 units and captured up to 14.4 percent of the market.
Meanwhile in Indonesia, BYD's wholesales were 15,429 units while retail sales were 13,964 units. That number is 2,312 units ahead of the second position, which recorded 13,117 units.
With this, the manufacturer has successfully secured the 11th position among the best-selling manufacturers in the country.
“Although not for a full year, BYD has become an important manufacturer in Indonesia, especially in the electric car segment. We have sold (wholesales) more than 15,000 units and captured a market share of 36 percent of the total EV market,” affirmed Eagle Zhou, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia.
The BYD M6 became the best-selling electric car in Indonesia with wholesale figures reaching 6,125 units. Meanwhile, the BYD Seal secured the third spot for best-selling electric cars in the country after selling 4,828 units.
The high sales of electric cars throughout 2024 are inseparable from the government's role in providing various conveniences to the public. Interestingly, these incentives will be continued, so it is hoped that positive records will be achieved again.
Meanwhile, in 2025, they affirm they will be more aggressive in developing the electric vehicle market in the country. This is because the manufacturer will launch several new products that are believed to be positively received by the public.
