President Prabowo Subianto recently expressed his longing to use a Toyota Alphard while on duty.
KatadataOTO – President Prabowo Subianto previously initiated the use of the locally-made tactical vehicle (rantis), the Pindad Maung, as an operational car for the government and its ministers.
He promoted this when he was still serving as Minister of Defense. The goal was to support the national automotive ecosystem.
However, Prabowo recently revealed that he has a favorite vehicle model for daily mobility.
It's not the Pindad Maung; the car in question is the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Toyota Alphard.
During an incognito trip, or a journey without an official presidential reception, Prabowo chose the Toyota Alphard as his vehicle instead of the Pindad Maung.
“It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed the Alphard, it’s quite nice,” Prabowo said on the sidelines of the Plenary Cabinet Session two days ago, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, Wednesday (22/10).
It is not new to see the Toyota Alphard being used for the mobility of government officials and ministries on duty.
The luxury MPV is indeed known for the luxury and comfort it offers, especially for its passengers.
However, for various other occasions, Prabowo affirmed that he will continue to use a car from Pindad as a form of his commitment to supporting domestic products.
“Remember, you are the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Alright then, keep using the Maung,” said Prabowo.
For your information, the Pindad Maung used as President Prabowo Subianto's official vehicle is based on the MV3 tactical vehicle, which has been specially adjusted and named the Garuda Limousine.
To meet the criteria for a presidential vehicle, PT Pindad made the model bulletproof.
The Pindad Maung uses Run-Flat Tyre (RFT) type tires. This means it can continue to be driven for a certain distance even if it has a puncture.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Alphard is an MPV available with gasoline engine and hybrid technology options.
The highest variant, the Toyota Alphard HEV, is priced at Rp 1.73 billion on the road in Jakarta as of October 2025.
The Toyota Alphard is equipped with a 2,500 cc engine, code A25W-FXS, producing 188 hp and a peak torque of 236 Nm, delivered to the wheels via a CVT automatic transmission.
Its interior prioritizes passenger comfort. In the second row, the seats are leather captain seats and are equipped with a massage function.
