Pindad Maung is ready for mass production to meet the domestic market's demand, but is still awaiting certification from the Ministry of Transportatio

KatadataOTO – PT Pindad (Persero) is making preparations to launch the Maung MV3 to the general public. This is because, so far, the tactical vehicle could only be owned by certain circles such as the military and government officials.
However, achieving this is not easy because PT Pindad must complete various certifications with the Ministry of Transportation. Once completed, the car can then be sold freely.
“We are preparing for certification from the Ministry of Transportation through the Roadworthiness and Motor Vehicle Certification Testing Center (BPLJSKB),” said Prima Kharisma, Director of Technology and Development at PT Pindad, as reported by Antara (27/02).
The certification process for the Pindad Maung at the Ministry of Transportation is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
He also said that Pindad's decision to market the Maung freely is due to the high interest in the product. Especially since President Prabowo Subianto has made the Maung his presidential operational vehicle.
However, he emphasized that the mass-produced Maung will have several differences. The goal is to make it feel more comfortable when used on the road.
Unfortunately, he declined to provide an estimated price for the product.
The Pindad Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine, also known as the Maung Garuda, is a product of PT Pindad. This vehicle uses 70 percent local components, while the other 30 percent are still imported from foreign countries.
The Pindad Maung weighs 2.95 tons with dimensions (L x W x H) of 5.05 m x 2.06 m x 1.87 m. Specifically for the unit used by the president, the car is coated with Composite Armor material, making it resistant to 7.62 x 51 mm NATO Ball and 5.56 x 45 mm M193 caliber ammunition, combined with B5/B6 level bulletproof glass.
Turning to the mechanical heart, PT Pindad has equipped the MV3 Garuda Limousine with a 199 hp engine, channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, its maximum speed is claimed to be 100 km/h.
